Founded in 1882, Ingersoll has been supplying watches for a very long time, making their first big impact in 1896 with a watch called ‘The Yankee’. It was the first watch priced for a dollar and they would sell almost 40 million watches over the next 20 years.
Fast-forward to today and they are still going strong and there is no shortage of selections…. So how do you choose the right one? Today we’ve gathered a collection of different style Ingersolls that all come with their own special features and functions. We’ll tell you what we like, what we don’t, and which one is our favorite.

Our Best Ingersoll Watch Reviews and Comparisons
1. Ingersoll Men’s Classic Champagne Dial Watch
Product Highlights
Our first entry is the Ingersoll Men’s classic Champagne watch and it’s got the information you need without resorting to confusing over-complication. This 3-dial watch gives you the time, date, and day at a glance, with the date and day encompassed within their own circles flanking the center dial mechanism. Housed in a Tachymeter bezel and secured to your wrist with a humble artificial-leather band, it gives you the goods with style and without breaking the bank.
Features
- Exhibition style stainless-steel case
- Caliber 619 movements incorporated
- 2 separate circular displays for date and day at a glance
- Water-resistant to 300 feet
What We Like About the Ingersoll Men’s Classic Champagne Dial Watch
First off, we like the simplicity of the design. It doesn’t go overboard to show you the innards or force you to learn some one-off arrangement that results in having to ‘translate’ it just to get the time. It simply does what it’s supposed to do without being ostentatious. The water-resistance of 330 feet is good unless you are thinking about diving with it and the stainless steel case feels quite durable.
What We Don’t Like About the Ingersoll Men’s Classic Champagne Dial Watch
The bezel is about 47 meters and this is important to know because this will certainly be noticed. Even with an oversized wrist you generally want to stay between 44 – 46mm, 47mm is big so unless you want something extra-easy to read or a little flashy this might be a problem. Genuine leather for the band would have also been nice.
PROS
- Classic, uncomplicated design
- Easy to read date, day, and time
- Durable steel case
- Water-resistant up to 330 feet
CONS
- The 47-millimeter bezel is a bit large
- Faux leather instead of Genuine
2. Ingersoll Men’s Painted Analog Display Self-Winding Watch
Product Highlights
Next up, is the Ingersoll painted analog self-winding watch and this is a great fit for those with bigger wrists who want a little self-winding style. The stainless steel bezel is solid and the leather on this watch is genuine, with a faux Croco texture added, and the Roman numerals definitely give it a classic feel. It features 3 sub-dials for a day, 24 hours, and month, and it’s even got light water resistance of up to 99 feet. If you want an Ingersoll with a little classic style then this is a great watch to consider.
Features
- Roman numbers with time and 3 sub-dials
- 46 mm bezel, great for larger wrists
- Day, month, and ‘Military time’ hour conveniently displayed
- Water-resistant up to 99 feet
What We Like About the Ingersoll Men’s Painted Analog Display Self-Winding Watch
We like the overall look, with the Roman numerals adding a bit of class without complicating your time-telling too much due to classic positioning. The 46 mm bezel is a great size for those of us who don’t have small wrists and the genuine leather feels nice. It’s also water-resistant enough without going overboard (some watches seem to assume that all owners are divers!).
It’s classy without going overboard and we like the look.
What We Don’t Like About the Ingersoll Men’s Painted Analog Display Self-Winding Watch
If you don’t have an oversized wrist then the bezel might be a deal-breaker. The sub-dials do provide useful information but the collection of standard Arabic numerals with the Roman ones can give a moment or two of confusion at a quick glance until you are used to how the display is arranged.
PROS
- The Roman numerals and overall design looks sharp
- Perfect for larger wrists
- Genuine leather band and stainless steel bezel
- Moderately water-resistant
CONS
- May be too large for some
- 2 numeric styles make sub-dials require more focus
3. Ingersoll Men’s Stainless Steel Open Balance Wheel Watch
Product Highlights
This Ingersoll Stainless Steel watch has a captivating design, incorporating a colorful open balance wheel nestled beneath two easy-to-use subdials, in the middle of the time and surrounding Tachymeter. It is water-resistant up to 165 feet and all throughout the diameter is an eye-pleasing texture that reminds one of the anti-counterfeiting patterns incorporated into currency.
If this is a trick to make this watch look expensive, then it’s subtly effective, and yet the fine leather band adds a humble aspect as well. The overall effect is a watch that seems to say ‘I don’t waste money but I do invest in nice things.’
Features
- Solid stainless steel case
- 40mm bezel seems the perfect size
- Water-resistant to 165 feet
- Tachymeter
What We Like About the Ingersoll Men’s Stainless Steel Open Balance Wheel Watch
We like this watch very much. This Ingersoll looks pricey without being ostentatious about it and it’s not oversized – a pleasure in a market which lately seems saturated with ‘wrist Frisbees’. It’s got a cool ‘push button’ clasp which is between the leather ends, which adds style and ease of putting it on. The water resistance is good and the Tachymeter is a nice touch too.
Classy, sensible, and useful – everything you need in a fine watch.
What We Don’t Like About the Ingersoll Men’s Stainless Steel Open Balance Wheel Watch
While listed as automatic, this watch does require a product-specific battery. We also wonder how the rose-gold appearance will age and while it might stay looking good with a little care we cannot guarantee this.
PROS
- Looks expensive but not ostentatious
- Well-sized for most men
- Push-button clasp incorporated with leather
- Tachymeter included
CONS
- ‘Automatic’ but requires a battery
- Longevity untested
4. Ingersoll Men’s Totem Self-Winding Watch
Product Highlights
The Ingersoll Totem is a great watch for people who don’t need an overabundance of flash, just the time and date in easy to read neon-green numerals. It’s got a black stainless steel case and a black leather band and it’s sized at 48 millimeters so there is no mistaking the time.
Simple, loud, and effective, a great watch for clubbing.
Features
- Durable steel and leather
- Self-winding
- Water-resistant to 99 feet
- Day, month, and 24-hour sub-dials and date
What We Like About the Ingersoll Men’s Totem Self-Winding Watch
The reflective colors and large display make this watch easy to read in more chaotic environments, so this is a plus for those with an active nightlife. We like that it is self-winding but doesn’t look flashy enough that you’ll have to hide it walking home. The water resistance is adequate and this is a good watch for larger wristed owners. The 2-year warranty sure doesn’t hurt, either.
What We Don’t Like About the Ingersoll Men’s Totem Self-Winding Watch
If you don’t have a larger wrist then this is going to be much too big for you. The green design in the sub-dials catches the light well but the segmenting and overall design makes them a bit confusing if you are just taking a quick glance.
PROS
- Reflective, easy to read display
- Self-winding but humble
- Water-resistance adequate for most
- 2-year warranty
CONS
- The case may be too large for many
- Subdials look a little confusing at first
5. Ingersoll Discovery Scovill Radiolite
Product Highlights
If you want something that’s not your average stainless-steel then consider this bronze-cased Ingersoll Discovery Scovill Radiolite. It’s got a classic look, with the bronze and stitched brown leather strap and it doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles that you don’t need. Just the time and the number for the day of the month. Even so, it’s self-winding, and resistant to water at up to 328 feet.
Strong, but unassuming, it’s a good looking watch without unnecessary ‘bling’.
Features
- Uncomplicated design
- Genuine leather band
- Water-resistant to 328 feet
- Numeric date only, no bothering with subdials
What We Like About the Ingersoll Discovery Scovill Radiolite
We like the overall simplicity. This is a sensible, retro style that is timeless. The self-winding and excellent water resistance really ups the appeal as well. It’s also nice to see something in bronze with so many steel models out there. It’s a comfortable, no-nonsense timepiece.
What We Don’t Like About the Ingersoll Discovery The Scovill Radiolite
At 43 millimeters it is good for a larger wrist only, so this may limit its appeal for some. Some reports say that it is easy to crack the face as well. While we didn’t have any problems with this we would be amiss if we neglected to mention this.
PROS
- Simple, handsome design
- Bronze and leather construction
- Excellent water resistance
- Self-winding
CONS
- May be too large for some
- Potential cracking issues
6. Ingersoll Men’s Stainless Steel Quartz Watch
Product Highlights
Next up on our list of Ingersoll watch reviews is the Ingersoll Stainless Steel Quartz watch. This is a black watch that also adopts a simple look like our previously reviewed model, limiting functions to timekeeping while incorporating a seconds sub-dial that is useful. This gives you exact seconds instead of having to estimate roughly as a dial moves on the notches.
Resistant to water up to 165 feet, this watch is solid, sensible, and stylish.
Features
- Quartz timing
- Simplistic design
- Water-resistant up to 165 feet
- Genuine leather band
- Lifetime warranty
What We Like About the Ingersoll Stainless Steel Quartz watch
Let’s hear it for lifetime warranties! Also, not everyone wants a watch with a million sub-dials and this watch delivers in this fashion. You simply get the time and numeric date – really all that you need. The additional water resistance and leather and steel construction cinch it for us, this is a sensible, good-looking watch.
What We Don’t Like About the Ingersoll Stainless Steel Quartz watch
At 47.5 millimeters this is a watch for a big wrist. We also would like this in automatic.
PROS
- Lifetime warranty
- No unnecessary bells and whistles
- Leather and steel construction
- Adequate water resistance
CONS
- The case is a little on the big side
- The automatic movement would have been nice
7. Ingersoll The Jazz Mens Analog Automatic Watch
Product Highlights
This entry is a real looker! Ingersoll’s ‘The Jazz’ Automatic watch is a self-winding, stylish stainless-steel timepiece that is water-resistant to 164 feet and includes sub-dials depicting the moon phases and a dual time display. A useful function for travelers or those with a traveling spouse.
An open balance wheel and the Ingersoll logo is also present and everything is held in place with a black leather band. At 42 millimeters, it’s also a good size for most wrists, and well worth a second look.
Features
- Stainless steel and leather construction
- Moon phase display
- Open balance displayed
- Dual-time keeping
What We Like About Ingersoll’s ‘The Jazz’ Automatic watch
We like the overall design – silver and black always tend to look good and it’s really taken up a notch on this watch. The self-winding is appreciated and we also like the moon phase display. While that’s a bit old-school we’ve always found it charming and the dual-time is another less-common option that we always appreciate. The open balance is hypnotic to watch from time to time and the water resistance is not huge but 164 feet is quite adequate for most.
What We Don’t Like About Ingersoll’s ‘The Jazz’ Automatic watch
This looks good but it is a little on the heavy side. At 42mm it may also look small on larger wrists so this is another limitation.
PROS
- Solid construction
- Moon phases
- Dual time
- Adequate water resistance
CONS
- Little heavy
- Not suitable for larger wrists
8. Ingersoll Limited Production Full Calendar Open Heart Grand Canyon II
Product Highlights
The Ingersoll Grand Canyon II is a fine-looking, limited-production watch. It’s got a 42mm diameter, making it a great fit for most, and incorporates a full view calendar – packing in days, months, and years! The ‘open heart’ aspect lets you see inside the inner workings of this glorious timepiece and while it’s stainless steel and leather, it is also self-winding.
Somehow flashy yet unassuming, we have to say we like it.
Features
- Stainless steel and leather construction
- Full date function
- Roman numerals for a classic look
- ‘Open-heart’ for added style
- Water-resistant to 99 feet
What We Like About the Ingersoll Grand Canyon II
We like the look of this and adding in the years for the date is a nice touch. The open heart feature is always a favorite and it looks very sharp and colorful. The modest 41-meter size is also a happy medium that will fit most perfectly. We also love that it is made of leather and steel, yet automatic.
What We Don’t Like About the Ingersoll Grand Canyon II
We would have liked more water resistance but 99 feet isn’t awful. It is a little on the heavy side, as well, but for some this simply makes it feel more ‘solid’ so this may not be a deal-breaker for you.
PROS
- Full date function
- ‘Open heart’ style
- Great size
- Steel, leather, and self-winding
CONS
- Could use more water resistance
- Heavier than many watches
Final Verdict
Now that we have seen a sampling of what Ingersoll brings to the table we are faced with a difficult decision. Which of these fine timepieces was our favorite? As it turns out, we liked the Ingersoll Men’s Stainless Steel ‘Open Balance Wheel’ watch the most. It’s got a great look to it without making you feel presumptuous. It gets lots of looks and people will ask you about it.
While we stated that we cannot attest to longevity due to testing limitations, we have seen no complaints about quick degradation and so if we have to pick one watch from the list, this watch is definitely the one. Take a closer look when you have a moment and we think that you will agree!
BUYER’S GUIDE
When you are hunting for the perfect wristwatch there are a few basic concerns that you need to keep in mind. We’re going to briefly overview some of the most important ones so that you’ll have a quick ‘refresher’ on the data that you need to make an informed decision. Let’s take a look at the basics.
Style
Style is important. It’s not just about how you like the look, though, but also where you will be wearing it. If you are going to be wearing it for business purposes then you may want to spring a little more cash into your purchase in order to achieve the desired effect. If you want something durable that can take a work-beating, however, then this is also a consideration.
Some people want their watches for evening entertainment, selecting larger watches for easier reading or to complete a specific style, so that’s another consideration as well.
Figure out where you will be wearing it the most and remember, you can always get more than one!
Materials
Materials are another important consideration and one that can seriously add to your price tag. Do you want something that is gold or silver? What about stainless steel or bronze? The band is also a consideration here, as you might want a simple leather band or prefer the longevity of a metal one. Just be sure to go with something durable and try to avoid anything with ‘faux’ tacked into the title. They simply aren’t the same.
Water resistance
Water-resistance doesn’t get a lot of thought and it should. If you get pushed in the pool, is your expensive watch going to be ruined? If you like watersports or fishing, will you need to take it off? This is something that you want to consider beforehand because if you don’t then you might be in for a huge disappointment when summer comes around.
Also, we should mention that 30 meters/99 feet water resistant ratings don’t mean that you should be diving. Think of these as resistant to ‘vigorous splashing’ rather than ‘pool proof’ to keep things on the safe side as watches with this rating are more vulnerable than you think.
Over Complicated features
Additional features that you don’t need should be factored in. You want to be able to get the time and date at a quick glance and really not a whole lot more. While additional functions can make a watch more desirable, too many of them can make a good timepiece into a hassle, so consider distilling functions into well-displayed, simple ones.
Brand names
Go with a name that you trust, especially where watches are concerned. Companies that produce timepieces and have been around for many a year have a real edge when it comes to their products. You want that kind of longevity because it means you’ll have less worry about the accuracy of your timepiece and more protection as well, as companies with a long history tend to stand fast by their products and this is well worth the extra cost in the long run.
When ordering online, always check the diameter
When you are ordering something online you should always verify the dimensions, doubly-so with watches. For instance, with men’s watches, the average size factors out at 37 – 39 mm, exception sports-type watches which are around 40 – 42 meters in diameter.
